The lightest Panigale of all time

The new Ducati Panigale V2 marks a historic transition in the history of Borgo Panigale twin-cylinder sports bikes, because for the first time it is not derived from the larger motorcycle that competes in Superbike. Designed totally from scratch, it is the lightest ever Panigale. It weighs 17 kg less than the previous model, from which it inherits its sports attitude and adds a level of ease, comfort and riding pleasure.

The lightest Panigale of all time.

The new Ducati Panigale V2 marks a historic transition in the history of Borgo Panigale twin-cylinder sports bikes. For the first time it does not derive from the larger motorcycle that competes in Superbike and has been designed from scratch, which has resulted in the creation of the lightest ever Panigale. It weighs a good 17 kg less than the previous model, inheriting the characteristic sports attitude and track performance of that bike and adding a level of ease, comfort and riding pleasure.
DESIGN

The essence of Ducati sports attitude.

The Panigale V2 retains the design spirit of the V4, inheriting its sports attitude and reinterpreting it in a more compact, refined guise. The new Panigale V2 cleaves the air with complex volumes, conveying the perfect balance of aggression and elegance, typical of Ducati supersports. A more horizontal dynamic and less front load highlights the compactness of the new V2 engine.

Design inspired by the Panigale V4

The new Panigale V2 is the first supersport in Ducati history to be designed from scratch, rather than deriving directly from the ‘bigger’ models. The design is inspired by the Panigale V4, but the lines and concepts have been reinterpreted around the new mechanical base.

New shapes and balance

A horizontal dynamic and less front load highlights the bike’s compactness. The clean and simple design is characterized by expansive, smooth, taut surfaces that convey complex volumes. The result is a sports bike that perfectly balances aggression and elegance, like every Ducati supersport.

Tank designed to ensure the best ergonomics

The tank on the new Panigale V2 flaunts an ergonomic layout like that of the Panigale V4, optimising rider support when braking and hanging off mid-turn. The surfaces in contact with the rider ensure better anchoring of the knees, less arm fatigue during braking, and reduced physical effort when out of the seat through the corners.

Seat designed for comfort and control

With a seat positioned 837 mm from the ground, the rider’s feet can reach the ground easily and safely. The height of the semi-handlebars is designed to reduce load on the wrists, while the footpeg position minimizes knee fatigue, while ensuring excellent mobility during sports riding. The passenger seat is well distanced from the footpegs without sacrificing the riding position.

Thermal comfort during everyday riding

Behind the fairing, ducts direct fresh air coming from the front towards the rider’s legs. This solution works in synergy with the upper vents, designed to redirect hot air from the radiator, for a cooler riding environment both on the road and during the most intense sessions on track.

An ergonomic revolution.

Totally redesigned from scratch, the new Panigale V2 offers a modern riding position, more comfortable and versatile compared to the previous model. The thermal comfort of the rider reaches new heights, ensuring a better experience in every situation.

PERFORMANCE

Fast on track, perfected for the road.

During the development tests, the new Panigale V2 proved to be as fast on the track as the previous model. This results were possible thanks to a weight of -17 kg, a light and modern chassis, new ergonomics, a high-torque engine and an ease of riding unknown to the previous V2. On the saddle, the rider is comfortable from the very first corner and can stretch his limits more easily because of a reduced physical effort required.

The test at Vallelunga circuit

In the hands of Italian Supersport Champion and test rider Davide Stirpe, the new Panigale V2 lapped with very similar times to the previous model. The new Panigale V2 offers greater braking, corner entry, turning and traction performance. It is decidedly easier and more intuitive to ride and requires less physical effort when riding at the limit on track. It can also count on latest-generation electronics.

This balance of performance and versatility ensures that the Panigale V2 is not only fast, but also extremely enjoyable during everyday use.

“Easy and intuitive. It immediately puts you at ease.”

Davide Stirpe, Italian Supersport Champion and Ducati test rider

The reduced physical effort at both high and low speeds is clear to see and allows for longer runs. The graph below shows that the new Panigale loses through the first part of the track, which is the fastest section, before gaining and remaining aligned through the slower section, from Campagnano onwards, where handling, ease of riding and lightness allow the rider to recoup precious tenths of a second and finish with a similar lap time.

In the words of Marc Marquez.

The new Panigale V2 is very easy to ride; it’s agile and corners well, and its lightness allows you to be fast on track without significant physical effort.

Electronics

First-rate electronics.

The electronics package on the Panigale V2 guarantees unmatched enjoyment, maximising performance in total safety and offering complete control in every situation. It has the most comprehensive standard electronics package of any bike in its category.

Riding Modes and Power Modes

The Riding Modes allow the rider to choose between four different base setups (Race, Sport, Road and Wet), to adapt the bike to different riding conditions. Each Riding Mode offers pre-set levels of performance and control intervention that can be customised by the user, who can also select and modify three different engine responses (High, Medium and Low Power Mode, with power limited to 95 hp in Low Mode) as well as the level of ABS, Wheelie Control, Engine Control and Engine Brake intervention. When the dash is set to Track Info Mode, the user can modify the control levels even when riding, in real time.

Racing Cornering ABS

The ABS system on the Panigale V2 comes complete with cornering function, for ABS intervention even when the bike is tilted. Cornering ABS can be set according to three levels to meet the needs of all riders, whether on track or road, even in critical conditions of low grip.

While level 3 is suitable for the road or for conditions of low grip, levels 2 and 1 are aimed more at sports riding on high grip surfaces or on track.

Level 2 is recommended for amateur track use. The system manages both the front and rear braking systems and keeps the cornering function activated in the absence of lift control, for more sports-style braking. Level 1 is designed for expert track use, ensuring race-type intervention with the ABS system acting only on the front wheel.

Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC)

Panigale V2 is equipped with the latest version of Ducati Wheelie Control. Using information from the six-axis IMU, this system controls wheelies and allows the rider to achieve maximum acceleration performance.

Ducati Traction Control (DTC)

The DTC interfaces with the 6-axis inertial platform to adapt intervention and slip to the bike’s lean angle. The DTC can be set according to 8 different levels (6 for dry conditions and 2 for wet), allowing the rider to adapt the control strategy to their riding style and the grip conditions, for maximum performance.

Engine Brake Control (EBC)

The EBC has been revised to help riders optimise stability of the bike in extreme conditions of corner entry, balancing the forces to which the rear tyre is subject in conditions of intense engine brake application.

Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) 2.0

The new Panigale V2 uses the second-generation DQS that debuted on the new Panigale V4. With respect to a traditional quick shift, the gear lever has no micro-switch, which ensures more direct feeling when shifting as well as reduced travel and more repeatable performance. This is thanks to a strategy based on the sensor that supplies information as to the position of the gear drum.

Ducati Power Launch e Ducati Pit Limiter

The new Panigale V2 S is equipped with the Ducati Power Launch and Pit Limiter. The first is a system that guarantees lightning starts, allowing the rider to focus only on releasing the clutch. The second, which can be activated via the dedicated button, automatically limits bike speed along the pitlane. DPL and Pit Limiter are available as accessories for the Panigale V2.

New 5” full TFT display

A new dashboard, with a design inspired by the Panigale V4, an innovative user interface that integrates all the warning lights, and three info modes, for total control and all the information a rider could need.

Info Mode ROAD

Designed to display all the essential information for road riding. The circular rev counter takes up the entire right side of the display, with the selected gear displayed in the centre. On the left is the speedometer and selected Riding Mode. On-board computer data features in the four corners of the display, showing fuel level, time, coolant temperature and air temperature.

Info Mode ROAD PRO

The Road Pro version increases the amount of information shown, shifting the rev counter to the centre to leave room on the left for power and torque percentage levels. Parameters relating to the selected Riding Mode are visible on the right.

Info Mode TRACK

This mode features a rectangular rev counter bar, which extends all the way across the top of the display. The gear indicator is larger than that of the Road view, while the speedometer is smaller. On the left is data relating to Lap Timer Pro, if installed (GPS signal, lap time, split, lap number and session number, split improvement, and overall best lap time or session best lap time, as on the Panigale V4). With this display mode, the rider can adjust DTC, EBC, DWC and ABS levels while riding, in real time.

VEHICLE

Designed for lightness.

Starting from scratch, Ducati engineers took advantage of the monocoque frame to create the lightest Panigale ever.

Monocoque frame

The chassis of the new Panigale V2 adopts the monocoque structure that serves as both frame and airbox and exploits the V2 engine as a structural element. A compact and lightweight solution that allows the “S” version of the new Panigale V2 to achieve a no-fuel kerb weight of 176 kg, 17 kg less than the previous model. The double-sided swingarm is inspired in design by the Hollow Symmetrical Swingarm of the Panigale V4 and offers the same benefits in terms of corner exit stability and feeling during track riding, where the rider can really exploit the latest conception of slick tyres. The new Panigale V2 can in fact mount the same sized tyres used in the Supersport World Championship without any modifications.

Class-leading suspension

The suspension is fully adjustable, allowing the rider to customise the set-up of the new Ducati sports bike. The Panigale V2 features a Marzocchi fork and Kayaba shock absorber, while the Panigale V2 S is equipped with class-leading components: Öhlins NIX-30 forks with 43 mm diameter stems and Öhlins shock absorber.

Superbike brakes

The new Panigale V2 is equipped with a Brembo system that ensures significant braking power on track and real controllability during everyday use on the road. The front system comprises M50 monobloc calipers with four 30 mm pistons, 320 mm discs, and a radial or PR16/21 master cylinder. At the rear, the Panigale V2 mounts a single 245 mm disc.

Redesigned ergonomic triangle

The ergonomic triangle offers comfort, versatility and control, without limiting track performance. The position of the clip-ons ensures excellent support during braking and contributes to reducing the riding effort. The shape of the tank guarantees effective support when braking and hanging off the bike, ensuring the ideal riding position and greater confidence during sports riding.

Forged semi-handlebars

The new Panigale V2 is equipped with a pair of forged aluminium semi-handlebars mounted above the steering head. Thanks to their raised position, these semi-handlebars guarantee exceptional control and stability, as well as comfort and versatility on the road. For those who ride predominantly on track and want a more front-loaded riding position, racing semi-handlebars are available as an accessory. These are mounted beneath the steering plate, which is designed to accommodate this modification.

Footpegs with forged joints

The footpegs on the new Panigale V2 come complete with forged joints and aluminium heel guards. Their aggressive design offers excellent grip, ensuring maximum stability through even the toughest turns. The footpegs are high enough from the ground to allow for MotoGP-style lean angles, while their distance from the seat makes for a comfortable riding position during road use.

Tank shaped for the track

The tank on the new Panigale V2 flaunts an ergonomic layout similar to that of the Panigale V4, optimising rider support when braking and hanging off mid-turn. With no metal parts, the surfaces in contact with the rider ensure better anchoring of the knees, less arm fatigue during braking, and reduced physical effort when out of the seat through the corners.
